Sibelius Crashes When Activating PLAY

Article applies to:
  • Sibelius 5, 6, 7
  • PLAY v1.2.5+

Description

When activating PLAY, or selecting a configuration that uses PLAY, Sibelius crashes.

Solution

This behavior usually indicates that the PLAY plugin in the Sibelius VSTPlugins folder is a different version than the installed version of PLAY.

When encountered, it's recommended to run the most recent PLAY update installer (even if you had already done so).

Windows users should then copy the updated PLAY plugin from the default location to the Sibelius VSTPlugins folder (see Plugin Doesn't Appear in Available Devices for VSTPlugin folder locations).

The 32-bit PLAY plugin file is named "play_vst.dll" and the 64-bit PLAY plugin file is named "play_vst_x64.dll". These files can be found as follows:

Windows 32-bit

32-bit plugin: C:\Program Files\Common Files\EastWest\VSTPlugins\

Windows 64-bit

32-bit plugin: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\EastWest\VSTPlugins\
64-bit plugin: C:\Program Files\Common Files\EastWest\VSTPlugins\
